NEWARK, NJ (August 17, 2012) 24 Hours of Peace, Occupy Clinton Avenue is an outdoor cultural event aimed at addressing violence through the performing arts. “We’re trying to promote peace and community togetherness…We need to do it in a dramatic force to dramatize how serious this issue is for us.” said, Councilman Ras Baraka in August 2011, days leading up to the First Annual 24 Hours of Peace Rally. Music, Poetry, Dance, Film and Spoken word will be the vehicle to promote the message of peace and unity in the community. The overall message is to say “Time Out” to the community, and to have 24 hours without any violent acts, physical or verbal, as a glimpse to a present/future, violence free community. 24 Hours of Peace is also an excellent community building event where parents, children, artists, business owners, faith based, and community based organizations are engaged in enjoying peaceful, tasteful, and artistic expression right in the neighborhood. We are expecting at least 2000 people to attend this event.

“24 Hours of peace and unity is a small step in our ongoing commitment to increasing the PEACE!! We are Hip Hop and our ethic is Peace, Love, Unity and Safely, having fun.” says Host, Hakim Green of Channel Live. 2011 was our inaugural year for the 24 Hours of Peace Concert.
We were graced with local Hip Hop artists, dancers and poets including True School Hip Hop Artist, Lakim Shabazz, Hip Hop producer and engineer for Hip Hop Icon Jay-Z; Young Guru, and internationally known poets/activists Amiri and Amina Baraka.

This year the entertainment roster includes artists such as Co Host, Tap Dance King, Savion Glover, DJ Antoine Qua of 107.5 WBLS, Rah Digga, former First Lady of The Flip Mode Squad, Hip Hop Greats, Treach of Naughty by Nature, Do It All of Lords of the Underground, AntiIndustry, Jersey Block Entertainment and a host of local artists.
We are reaching out to artists outside of Newark who have a history of promoting Peace, unity and positive productive images. “This event is to promote violence as a Public Health Issue.
This is the beginning of a joint effort to eradicate violence in the city of Newark, and throughout New Jersey.” says JahJah Shakur, Chairman of 24 Hours of Peace Coalition.
